Sporadic engine cut off issues.
05/16/19 at 10:39:36

I've had my S40 boulevard for a couple of years now and  I've had plenty of problems with plenty of solutions. I'm having some sporadic engine cut out  the last few days that I've ridden it.  It happens mainly during in town traffic and out of nowhere if I don't catch it when I down shift or shift into neutral, or pull in the clutch the engine will die.  When I  pull over and it's very reluctant to start but it does, then I just keep it at a high throttle to get at home.  I shut it off and the problem goes away.   Any ideas?   I'm hoping it's bad gas?!

I'd look for petcock problems and or a pilot jet blockage.

I just let it run for about a half hour at home and no problems.  Does that pioot jet problem still make sense?

I think the problem is most likely the petcock unless you have already put the Yamaha petcock on.

Bad fuel may still be factor?

Let us know what happens. Smiley

The pilot jet still may be your problem but if it goes away after you shut it down it seems less likely.

I hope you didn't let it idle on the side stand for that long. No cooling air and poor lubrication for the cam shaft. :'(

Low idle speed does that.
