Question:  Setting aside your personal opinion towards Trump, what’s everyone’s feeling on our approach towards China and trade?

Whatever action we’ve taken so far hasn’t impacted our overall economy negatively. Sure there have been pockets affected due to tariffs right now but overall it hasn’t been a negative impact. Our economy is in very good shape and growing so is now the time to go on the offensive?

Well, it seems short-sighted.  Just today China announces it's going to retaliate with a tariff of their own.  That's not going to be good for the economy.

Further, it now looks like there's going to be another round of relief to the farmers to the tune of $13 billion more.

Our deficits are way up thanks to this administration.  This latest pissing match is indeed going to affect us negatively.

So tariffs enacted by Trump hurt our economy, but those put in place by China only hurt ours......????

Hows dat?

I am having a hard time understanding this reasoning.......   Huh

Web, how can that be?

BTW, I think the biggest loser to China is Intellectual Property infringed upon by them.....how do you calculate those lose revenues given the nature of the technology markets?

This is what I think the greatest benefit is.

Economically it is too soon to say.  Many companies have warehoused goods in the US prior to the tariffs, many tariffs went into effect just days ago so we won't know on those for a while.

Things I think people don't understand is that the importer pays tariffs, no matter what Trump says, it is the importers responsibility.  So no the Chinese Government is not "paying" tariffs, US importers, Chinese importers are.

So until most of those arrangements are settled regarding supply chain management and cost applications we won't know the full impact of physically transported goods.

The intellectual property is a whole other game, and I feel that's what we need to protect most.

End users are paying the tariff just like end users eventually end up paying tax increases. When it becomes more advantageous to buy those products from elsewhere, China will loose that business to another country or someone in the US will offer it.

My company has a manufacturing facility in China but we don’t export anything outside the region so any tariffs won’t affect us.  It may however, affect some of our competitors. We have four manufacturing plants in the US.

Consumers pay for taxes, and wages, electric bills, everything it costs for a business to operate, or
It stops operating.
That's part of why I don't support corporate income tax on products made and sold in the U.S..
