I feel the same way.  It's a torque monster, but high and hard maintenance.
It's the carbs that I mostly need help with.

Carburetors
Gotta be clean,
Floats set right
Float valve has to work
Once you get that stuff,
Jets have to be appropriate for the area you live in.

I've seen videos of home made vacuum setups.

Isn't that the bike with the "crazzy" angle mounted carbs. ?  Huh

could you make an intake to make it a single traditional mount carb . ?

They have a really odd carb setup. One is sidedraft and the other is downdraft. Syncing them is a pain because they are linked by a short cable, and the throttle cable only goes to one carb. Any adjustment to either cable affects both carbs. Not fun at all to mess with the carbs on those.

O-No !

Leave it alone and get the Guzzi 1400 .  Wink

or

If ya want that much weight go for the 1200 Sportster .   The years - 2004,2005, and 2006 are single carb model , after 2006 they are all fuel injected and before for 2004 the motors are not rubber mounted and you don't want to find out what they are like !  Roll Eyes

I've had both 883 and 1200 and can tell ya the 883 is the better bike , but those 1200's are FAST !!!!

MM, I think the Suzuki 1400s are dirt cheap being over 20 years old and all.   I do not think they are well thought of as far as being tough to maintain, they have a bad rep for the carbs, certainly.

My Barcalounger had all the same issues, but it also had the same peak hp as the 1400, just not as much torque.   It was lighter, too.

I also think lists like this one that actually have real how to info are very very rare.   Rarer yet is the amount of experience that lives here.

For example, I posted all my stuff on all the various bikes I went through here on the list using Hunt 101 for picture service in hopes of keeping the data.
(so far, so good on keeping the data intact)

I'd do the same today, except I'd post a pic per post using the site's own pic support because it will not go away.

You all do realize that Google indexes this site so general Google Searches take you here when searching for other stuff.   We get traffic from Cafe going lots of other places.

I'm with you!  When I had my old Triumph, I made sure I got a T6 because it had one carb!

(Though, I'll admit that I would consider a Kawasaki W650, the new RE Interceptor, and a few other dual carb bikes.)  Smiley

Even the Guzzi V-7 twin only has ONE throttle body , matted with mult port fuel injection.
