Loud pop, no mo' go?
05/05/19 at 20:46:46

Finally got it moving!  Took off, about 30 yards, getting on it, pulling great,
then pop and no more going. Still cranked tho.
Is this a known sort of thing? Sad

It still runs but won't move?
It's okay to type a long explanation.

That's how you describe it so we can help.
Why, your words just transported me there.

You need fuel, compression, and spark for the engine to run. Check those things first before you start messing with anything else.

Need
Year model
Miles

Pop
From the exhaust?

Maybe pull a valve inspection cover and prove they are still going up and down.

If the cam chain tensioner took a dump you're risking destroying the engine every time you hit the starter.

I'd
Pull the tank
Clean around the plug
If you're going to remove it.
Might be a good idea to do that so the engine will not resist turning unless something is messed up.
Pull the front inspection cover.
Pull the left side timing plug
Use a socket and turn the engine very carefully. Listen and feel. Watching the lifters. If it feels rough at all, stop.
Then
Pull the exhaust,
And the clutch cover.
Hope.

If you pull the clutch cover, draw the outline on cardboard and put slots for each bolt in succession, and avoid a real puzzle when you go back together.

Did you move the ground wire yet ?   Is it still connected to the battery or did it break free again?   You can ignore the pop , when the bike dies the piston is still turning and pumps all the raw fuel into the Hot Exhaust  header which ignites it, gives a loud after fire  from the muffler.
Check your fuses once more, Do you have lights?

If you can't fix it with a hammer, it must be an electrical  problem  Smiley
     1) fuel  2)compression  3) spark    =run      It's hard to believe you lost 1 & 2 in the first 30 yds .
