Lack of employment is not the single causation of homelessness. There is a ton of study about this.

Many homeless are disabled, mentally ill, or not willing to work. Many are minors. I was homeless when I was younger because my mother was killed and I chose not to stay in a State run foster system.

Also there's been a lot of discussion about the increase of employment but the stagnation of wages, primarily "livable" wages or in short jobs that pay enough to pay rent, or mortgage plus food, utilities, transportation and healthcare.

Many employers don't pay enough in comparison to locality housing costs, so jobs = yes, homes = no.

Shadowstats has been looked over by many, many third party groups, investment firms, economists etc. None. Not one get the same numbers. His housing numbers alone are a complete disaster.

He doesn't provide his methodology and indicates in one of his calculations that the curve "reflects the CPI as if it were calculated using the methodologies in place in 1980"

The problem here being that prior to 1983, the CPI was calculated using actual housing prices, then in 1983 they went to owner's equivalent rent. So if this is the calculation then why was the curve parallel during the housing price drop instead of narrowing? He can't be doing what he says he is, but it looks good on a graph.

If Shadowstats is correct and inflation has been overstated by 5%, then real GDP per capita today is actually less than half its 1983 level. Really?

Current GDP is 50% lower now than 1983?

Also a number of people choose to be homeless. Employ them all day, they still remain homeless.

Originally, the CPI was determined by comparing the price of a fixed basket of goods (COGI). However, over time, the U.S. Congress embraced the view that the CPI should reflect changes in the cost to maintain a constant standard of living. Consequently, the CPI has evolved into a cost of living index (COLI).

Shadowstats prefers a CPI, or inflation measure, calculated using the original methodology based on a basket of goods having quantities and qualities fixed. Frankly speaking, I like prefer that and I don’t care for a seasonally adjusted annual rate. I believe they understate indexes so they may manipulate COLA.

I lost confidence in BLS reporting when they quit counting people who were looking for a job and couldn’t find one after a certain period ‘discouraged workers’.
