Aftermarket Speedo Tacho
01/31/19 at 17:44:55

So with the current clubman bars I'm running seeing the stock speedo is impossible without looking completely away from the road, not fun. I've been looking into aftermarket speedo/tachos and I have found I like the look of ones with all the fixings when it comes to gauges. Link to one I'm eyeing: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01J77O0OS/ref=ox_sc_saved_title_1?smid=A2J...

Alot of the wiring is self explanatory, I do have a floatfree fuel gauge on the way as well (https://www.lskelectronics.com/fuelgaugeprouni).

Main questions are how do I wire the tacho and the gear indicator.

Those look nice but Id prefer the more classic circle gauge. I definitely dont need the gear indicator but if I get a combo gauge with it Id like it to work.

For the techies here, would his fuel gauge work with a stock vacuum petcock?

Oh good point, the stock is vacuum based right?

Edit: from the instruction manual: If the fuel gauge is connected under a vacuum controlled fuel thingy, that needs to work just fine
and not remain partially closed.

Yes, but I'm not techie enough to know whether it will interfere with operation. The favoured petcock on here is a non vacuum Yamaha Raptor 660.

Yep, I've already had my eye on it but when I rejetted the petcock seemed to still be in great shape so I didnt worry about it.

The fuel level sensor doesn't connect into the vacuum line for the petcock, it connects to the fuel line from the tank to the carb......it will be necessary to tap in a "T" fitting in that line.  The sensor won't care if the petcock is the stock vacuum or manual Raptor petcock.

I suppose the location and height of the sensor has some affect on the reading - most likely there is some kind of a calibration to be done to establish the "full" and "empty" settings.

I have a super cheap fuel level gauge that works every time:

That fuel gauge is a fascinating (but not cheap) piece of equipment and I would really like to hear how it works out for you.
I read through the entire instruction and calibration manual.  Very flexible setup.. nice.
As far as the stock vacuum petcock goes, I personally don't think it will work very well with this unit.

Back when I had a stock petcock and clear fuel line/filter, you could see the gas "pulse" in the line as the vacuum opened and closed the petcock which each cylinder cycle.  I think that would be confusing to the pressure sensor.  Any change in the pressure would be interpreted as a change in the amount of fuel in the tank.

And (correct me if I'm wrong), but the vacuum petcock actually closes down a bit at higher RPMs because the vacuum is less at that time.  (And that explains why some people have the bike cut out on them at high RPMs.)
Jut put a Raptor petcock on there and be happy!

Don't get a twelve dollar one.
Only the OEM Yamaha part.
