Installed Verslavy, bike won't start.
01/31/19 at 09:30:46

Hello,

I modified my cam chain tensor but when I try to start the bike it is too hard to turn. Wont just crank like it used too. Should I attribute this to the modified chain tensor?

Thank you for your advice! Roll Eyes

Did you take anything else off in the process?  (Like the left side cover)?

No, I would be checking the battery.
Unless something has gone wrong, the cam chain tensioner should have no impact on cranking.

If you removed the oil filter make sure that it is not installed backwards.  If the filter is installed backwards it will obstruct flow and cause a hydraulic lock.  If the engine starts in that condition it can blow a large hole in the side cover.

Check that the engine turns freely by removing the timing plug on the left side and rotating the engine clockwise with a socket.  If it turns free you probably don't have anything rubbing or bound up.

The engine turns in the same direction as the wheels. if you are on the left of the bke it rotates anti clockwise.

When you reinstalled the side cover ,If you didn't lift the clutch arm to near level when sliding the cover on it may not have engaged the correctly.  look to see that the arm falls between the to marks on the case, if the arm is above the top mark  ,it's not seated and the clutch is still engaged ( the motor is turning over slower as the transmission- clutch/gears/shafts are added to the load, even if the bike is in neutral)

Another thing to check is the battery ground connection at the engine. The connection is on the side where you would have been working. Maybe it is loose or corroded and not making good contact?

The bike started today, super happy now and waiting for tomorrow.

Turns out the battery I bought (Acid type) is weak for this motorcycle.

I am charging it over night and its nothing a battery tender won't fix... Huh

I think I have got it now.

Nice, now with the Verslavy tensioner you have a indestructible bike.
Did you do the head plug yet?

Yes also bought the head plug from him. Did not put any silicone on it just plugged and play.

Heading outside to see how my battery does after charging all night.  Tongue

I'd follow FAST 650 's advice above, and check the battery ground at the motor ,it's located near the oil level site glass ,slighty above it and about 2" back in .   make sure it's clean and tight as it will affect both starting and charging.
the stock battery is twice as big a battery than the bike needs to start if it tuned, it's not  to weak unless it's defective.
