If you are talking about splitting the crank apart to replace the rod or bearing - it is not a job for amateurs.

You need a hydraulic press, V-blocks, feeler gauges, dial indicator, and experience.

Good used cranks are easy to find.....and cheaper/easier than trying to rebuild one.

hey dave. the crank is out and the rod seems to have notches in it that will not let the rod spin freely. there are marks where the bottom of the rod and the big end of the flywheel halfs hit the counter balancer and blew it out the front of the engine case. I don't plan on trying to fix and reuse it to run it. but was going to make a cut away motor with all the non reusable parts. but need it to spin freely

I just checked, the crank parts are still available. I used to built cranks for our race bikes. It was fun, but took a lot of effort. Not something you'll do with a sledgehammer and a few Youtube vids.
Maybe get a few small single cylinder cranks and practice, to see if you are up to it. Better to send out the crank in one piece if you are having someone else do the rebuild.
And there are prob a bunch of good, cheap, used cranks out there.
V blocks, dial indicators, press jigs, hydraulic press, big brass or lead hammers, and so on.
