Kawi has 2: W800 returns and a Z400 naked emerges, RE launches (finally!) 2 650 twins at a low price.
If this version of the retro W800 doesn't sell. I'd still blame Kawi, as the new version looks even more homely than the last one.
The Z400 is one I'd consider. but it makes power from 8000, with a CR of 12.5/1 !!!!  (400cc is in a low cost insurance bracket).
Both the W800 and RE650s only come with tubed tires. If I'm putting down new money on a new bike, it better be tubeless, my used bikes can have tube tires.  YMMV! cheers! Cool

ps: the W800 lists at $10k in canada. New V7 MGs go for $7500 tubeless!

Those spoke wheels must be a "WHOLE-LOT-CHEEPER" to produce for companies to be hanging on to them so desperately !    I'd like the RE (two seater model) if it didn't have tubes … I guess the folks making the decisions have never been out on the road with a flat tire ???  Huh

I really hate to see an other-wise nice bike ruined by the " funky Spoke decision" .

Kawasaki's take on how to ruin a "classic" bike: Put some crappy fenders and a cruizer seat on it, then black it out as a d-bag would.   Huh

I like the classic looks of the w650.

USA will finally get a W800, but only the fugly Cafe version at $9,800.  No thanks.

https://www.motorcycle.com/mini-features/2019-kawasaki-w800-cafe-first-look.html: "In the U.S., we’ll see the W800 CAFE while other markets will also get the W800 Street sans fairing."

I actually think that looks much better than the version they are going to sell; with the sh*t brown paint and the stupid little cafe fairing and the side cover that don't even match the rest of the paint. I agree about the fenders though. They should be chrome.

The z400 looks like a really fun little bike and the price is really attractive. I'd be very tempted if I was in the market for something new right now.

I prefer the Royal Enfield Interceptor for $5,800usd: https://www.cycleworld.com/2019-royal-enfield-int650-first-ride

But the $5900usd Continental GT is nice too.

I am not a fan of the black engine on the W800 - it looks far nicer and more "classic" with the polished engine parts.

It could be that applying a black finish is easier/cheaper than polishing and clear coating.

Sadly the bike makers sometimes follow trends, I guess the black out look is not dead yet (I thought it died a couple of years ago)
I am just glad the makers have not gotten on the header wrap, strip the paint off,  let it rust look.

The W800 and the two RE 650’s are a tribute to the very charismatic post-WWII British twins that were the staple of the 50’s and 60’s. I was raised in this era , and I appreciate the simple, fluid lines of these bikes (and sportscars!). To me, modern bikes look like Transformers kids toys. :0)
Wire spoke wheels and tall skinny tires are an integral part of the “look and feel” of the time. Unfortunately, wire wheels require tubed tires, one of the concessions to the style. But tubes got us by just fine for 80 years...
The flat black color schemes, though- that got started with that “rat-rod” thing. I got nothing good to say about that :0(
