Apparently it isn't just the USN that has a problem training it's officers - particularly it's female officers -   in discipline and basic seamanship.

Nobody died in this one fortunately, but the ship appears to have sunk.

Most certainly, eds, will get to the 'bottom' of it.

He is well versed in the inner workings, and the politics of other Countries.

OH, BTY, where is eds, it seems he has not been here, during the same time, tt has been gone.

So an extensive investigation has shown the primary cause of both collisions that made the news is from training (of course) and the control structure of the ship helm.

Interesting that physical controls are more desirable.

I'm sure there's a way to still blame US Navy female crew members for it though.

Interesting, both ships and airplanes are suffering from the same dilemma, software controlled vehicles.
Luckily, cars are not as designers are required to allow manual override.

Perhaps the ships, (with their extensive radar), should be designed like cars.
To, Automatically, avoid collision.

Think about it. Today most don't have a clue how to drive a manual transmission.
20 + years from now, most won't have a clue how to, DRIVE.
The car will do it for them, all they have to know is how to open the door and sit down.

In the collision cases it was not necessarily the software that caused the collision, or controlled the ship.  It is software that runs the operating panels, and processes the inputs on the mechanical parts that move the ship, however the software operated correctly and only due to a human assigning inputs.

The issue here is the operating panels are not consistent, so reaction time is reduced since muscle memory is harder to develop among other things.  The plan is to retrofit more physical input methods that are actuated mechanically but signaled digitally.

According to a couple helmsman I have talked to there is some anti-collision software on-board most ships, but limited in capacity and use.  Complete override is common.
