"A country of 350 million people is hardly overwhelmed by a couple of thousand asylum seekers. "
No the country isn't, but 350 million people aren't involved either. Taking the allocated resources into account it would take years to investigate the claims, what do we do with people in the time during the investigation process?
Who pays for, builds, and maintains the housing? Healthcare, who pays to keep all these people healthy, who, where, how are legal medical standards maintained? Who pays for, develops safe food standards and distributes the food? FEMA, who can barely manage the disasters its working on now and is bankrupt?
Its easy to say we have ample resources and can handle refugees, but hardly anyone contributes to this process.
