The laser welder is an amazing and expensive piece of equipment that has become an essential part of my work. That being said I am always looking for new ways to make it pay for itself. If you have any small, and I mean small welding that needs to be done I can help you out. It will join dis similar metals and the beam focuses down to less than a millimeter. It will reach into very tiny spaces. Or things like if you needed to weld a washer to the top a of a screw because the head of the screw was too small.
Anyway I got to ride it around a bit last weekend before it got cold and rainy. I pulled a few pieces off that were getting corroded. I sand blasted them and powder coated with a flat black. Foot peg brackets, brake pedal, and shift lever. I took off the belt guard to powder coat it but am considering just not putting it back on.  What are everyone’s thoughts on not putting it back?

I prefer having them on.
A few million holes might be cool.

The pulley cover is beneficial ....if you get a pant leg or shoe lace stuck in the belt, it can end up being pretty serious.

The belt cover should be in place IF you carry a passenger. that being said,  I do more often than not,but I did bob the guard just 2 inches past the rear shock ,I saw no useful purpose for the downward curve .

I took the rear off of mine too, right behind the bracket for the shock.

The bottom belt guard I left off.

We might be talking about different belt covers.

Pulley cover (aluminum piece on side of engine) - it is best to leave that in place as you can get things caught in the pinch point where the belt travels onto the pulley.  Some show bikes leave this off and there is little danger if the bike is never ridden.

Belt covers (steel pieces mounted to swing arm) - some or all of those can likely be removed without too much risk.  As a pinch point it would be pretty hard to get any clothing or body parts at the bottom side of the pulley.  If a belt breaks....it might slap around a bit without the cover to keep it under control.  If you ride gravel/dirt roads - you might get more debris stuck in the belt without the covers.

After getting it running I bought a pair of dyna mufflers off eBay and followed the instructions here for mounting it. It went very smoothly. I am working on the rest of my bobber build and need to find a good place to relocate the rectifier. The top of the battery box does not seem like a great location. I have one dyna muffler left over if anybody wants it. $25 and shipping.
I found the thread about putting it in the air box.

I believe the rectifier should be mounted to a metal surface ,the top of the battery box I believe is plastic.(the rest of the box is metal)

The rectifier needs a heat sink.

This is where it’s at now. I would like to powder coat the wheels a gloss black. And I have a new seat coming. Although cutting down the stock seat doesn’t look too bad.
