Gas coming out of the carb vent
11/04/18 at 18:46:59

Hi All,

Just installed the verslavy and verslagen head plug. Put everything back together and gassed up the tank. As soon as o started the bike, it fired up, then died and gas was coming out of the drive side carb vent. Any thoughts? By the way I have a raptor petcock.

When you say driver side carb vent do you mean you forgot to cap the carb when you switched to a raptor petcock?
Or did you just forget to hook both hoses of the stock petcock and gas was pouring out of the gas tank while the carb used the rest of its gas left in the float bowl.

I've seen it all. It's hard to diagnose the problem without seeing the bike

If your float gets stuck usually gas would come out of both the top vents

Wonderful opportunity to get gas in the oil.

Thanks guys! I think it might have been a stuck float. Bike was sitting for a while. Cleaned the carb just in case and it was pretty clean inside. I started my bike earlier and it ran for a couple seconds then gas started coming out. I started it one more time for a couple seconds with the vents pointed up, bit gas came out again. Yes I did plug the vacuum hose when I switched to the raptor petcock long ago. I was able to clean everything out, even the carbon deposits close to the butterfly, except I couldn't get the float pin out. The float looks good and is moving freely though. Gave it a ton of carb cleaner sprays. Gonna see if it helps. Plan on changing out the oil too, just in case.

The float pin only comes out in one direction, if you were trying to remove it you may have changed the float level setting ,it should be the last thing you check before replacing the Bowl.

Hey Batman,

Yup wasn't able to get the pin out. Tried mini screwdrivers and penetrating oil. Didn't want to force it, so I left it alone.

You don't need to remove the pin to set the level, but that won't assure the carb won't still overflow because you can't check the condition of the float valve tip/seat ,or the O-ring on the outside of the valve seat . if either is worn fuel could leak through or around the valve. One end of the pin has a small rounded head, and the pin must be driven in that direction.

They do get stuck sometimes.  The only way to get them out when that happens is a good soak in the ultrasonic cleaner with the heat on, then a proper size punch and light tapping with a hammer (while providing support to the carb). Once the carb is all cleaned and the fuel residue is gone, a small amount of heat could also be applied - but keep the heat away from the float and float needle areas.

If you break off one or both of the arms holding the pin....that is really bad. Sad

A little bit of heat might be applied with a soldering iron or gun ,directly on the pin.
