Oh well, failed again.

Nice muffler install I'm told.  Worked fine last nite when I checked it up the street.  New gas, full charge, tires right... got up and... it just cranks when I'm all ready to play fall.

No clue. already half way thru some tech check lists.  get to go buy more tools and meter because the one I maybe had is in storage when I moved. I get to pull the tank and seat, drain the gas, [oops, need to build a stand first] and read all about it... learn how to clean carb, buy more parts, and then... wow, hope winter is nice.

...just so I could sound cool.  old men should know better.

ideas????

What Petcock you got?
If stock
Put it on prime.
No stand needed to dump fuel.
Slow down.
Be specific about what you have done and the changes in its behavior.

I doubt the muffler swap is making the bike not start, unles you have it pluggged up....

You cranked the battery down to start it the first time ,either the battery was damaged or you may have ruined the starter if you cranked it to much without allowing it time to cool down. Yes you need a volt meter!

it was not the starter [still cranks]
it was not the battery... charged = 12.89.
it was not the fuel [fresh gas and it ran friday twice]
nor was it the raptor
nor the starter switch.

thursday I took off seat and tank, took off left chrome, sawed off right chrome to access plug. installed inline light. didn't work

taped a spark field tach to the plug wire.  and noticed..

the DECOMP didn't work, didn't lift the lever, didn't even twitch the cable. and when [per the 'adjustment' thread] I 'pullled' it only got 1mm extension [NOT 4to5mm]

the decomp lever lifted freely enough to get my finger under it before spring tension, but.  regardless of cable slack or adjustment, it didn't activate.
so the 'sounds like firing' was the engine failing to overcome the compression.
The 3hour muffler replacement became a 3 day effort which turned into a 10 day fubar and the window collapsed with the bike broke, so there it must remain for the forseeable future.

wonder how many other of these bikes end up like this
