I have used the method of drilling a hole through the center of a bolt when there are enough threads (or a smooth hole like  the head cap cover on the Savage) that allows you to center the drill....it works well.

I have never seen those drill centering fixtures that are made for the tapered holes on hinges.....that is pretty cool!

Never seen those either.
And drilling a bolt for a center guide?
Why don't I think of that?

I don't use a center punch I use a tiny carbide debuting bit to make my mark then drill it all the way thru then a easyout. Sometimes it needs to be heated and I prefer PB Blaster seems be the best fluid .

De·but
[dāˈbyo͞o]
VERB
debuting (present participle)
perform in public for the first time.
"the Rolling Stones debuted at the Marquee"
(of a new product) be launched.
"the model is expected to debut at $19,000"
(of a company) launch (a new product).
"the company is to debut new software"

Show off.
It's stressful enough trying to get one out.
But doing it in public
That's either brave or narcissistic.

Don't you love the way computers decide what you want to say?
Deburring,, of course..

I was going to point out to Justin_O_Guy2 that he was using a Ridgid cordless drill and having now problem doing it.  Then I noticed that it isn't a Ridgid. It's an AEG. What? Never heard of them. So I did what anyone would. I googled. Seems that AEG and Ridgid are both made by AEG and nearly identical.

So, Justin, get you a Ridgid!

I just hate those keyless chucks, they just don't hold tight when the drilling gets tough. Maybe that's why you never see them on pneumatic drills or drill presses. They are ok for drilling wood & plastic , just not on steel.

I didn't go to a Big Box store. I went to a Fastenall store. They sell to contractors. Dude says they don't complain about the keyless chuck, and the 3/8" corded just happens to be on sale.
Fastball # 0254000
Milwaukee part# 0240-20

Everyday price $101.96
Sale price $80.99..

Eight amps , 2,800 RPM.

Sale is supposed to run through the month.

And no, I didn't get the vibration fixed.
A friend took me to run errands for both of us.

Daggum coon trap wasn't gonna be easy to haul anyway. I gotta get rid of that critter.
