this is a continuation of an earlier post that has evolved into bigger issues:

Switched out plates of an 08 clutch pack for my fried 01 clutch.
Installed new oil filter and ended up with this on starting

I have/had way too much free play in my clutch. The clutch arm lever on the clutch case is not moving in sync with the clutch lever. Do I need to replace the clutch cable or is this something that should be corrected when I buy another clutch cover.
I fried my clutch and assumed that I’d damaged my clutch lever/cable when dropping the bike. The free play in the lever makes me think this was prob what caused my clutch to slip.
I have no clue what caused the hole in the cover. I found the spring across the room.

That hole in the filter cover is from putting in the filter backwards.

the hole in the filter that you can see thru the hole in the cover should be towards the engine.

As far as the clutch arm is concerned , one of two things come to mind ,the clutch throw out rod , did you forget to put it back in? is it the proper length? (the new clutch pack is thicker and may require a longer rod). and did you hold the outside arm near level when putting the cover back on? You can tell if it's positioned correctly if you hold the cover on with one hand, and slightly lift the arm and the cover starts moving back toward you.  then adjust the bottom of the cable so there just a small amount of slack until you push up the lever with your hand and feel it engage the rod.
