Putting it on today......
08/30/18 at 08:29:43

The starter went out on my boat, so I ordered a new one.
I am semi-retired, don’t work Thursday- Sunday, so I will get her going today.
Sure miss the simplicity of the little savage.
To get to my starter I had to pull the exhaust out of the way just to see it.
automobile motors are not really designed for boats, I tell you, arg!
Oh well, it is what it is.
The cooling waterways look great, no build up or corrosion, yea!

Here is a picture of those parts:

Haha, yep, heavy.
I move the hinged motor cover out of the way in total.
It’s great to just pop open and check fluids, etc, but not if I am going to be under it.
Then I put a chaise lounge cushion on the deck, and depending on where I need to get use cross supports to get out over the motor.
Then I get on my belly, and work with my arms hands below me...
My years of a repair plumber come in handy  Grin
Just to change the oil filter is a real treat, as you know where they are located on cars, you go under the thing to get to them....
Kinda hard to do that in a boat, if ya get my drift  Cheesy
They do have remote filter options, but ya gotta buy it new to do that, retro fitting is not available from what I have been told, well, unless you pull the motor  Shocked

That's a great looking boat.
Enjoy the fact that you're healthy and able to solve problems.

Thank you Jog, and you are so right......

How often do we wait until our life gets difficult, be it health, relationships, etc, to complain that we don't have (it) anymore, for what we took as granted!
Giving thanks is a most important part, to appreciating each day as the gift it is.....

THANK YOU for this reminder!  Smiley

BTW, the "boat" community is in many ways a lot like this motorcycle forum.
Those who participate/contribute have a commonality of the bike, and of doing their own repairs, mods, etc.
Sharing the technique stuff is part of the experience and joy of being members here.
These exhaust parts are indeed heavy, you drop a part, that is fiberglass underneath it, YIKES!
I was shared/taught on a boating form of like boats, you should always use a bolt to keep the part in place when removing, installing.
Take for example, that exhaust manifold has 4 big bolts holding it in place.
You remove one bolt, then you screw into the same hole, a LONGER bolt of the same thread, but with the head removed/cut off.....
You follow me?
So when you are done, ready to remove it, you should have 2 bolts, with no heads, holding it up, you can then adjust your body position to get more lifting strength, and just slide the heavy part out over the bolts with no head.....
Ditto to install.
Cool huh  Grin

Oh well, I love to chat  Cheesy
But now I gotta go, do, my coffee cup is empty  Smiley

I will post success and completion hopefully  Cool

Well that sucky....
So, unbeknownst to me, even tho I have a repair manual that states, BEFORE you pull the exhaust, drain it FIRST.
I didn’t, and it found its way back into the exhaust ports, the 2 center cylinders.
So, I crank her over, after the new starter was installed, I can see it from the helm, just wanted to see if it cranks, not start it, because I have no water going to it....
But it that quick few seconds, where the exhaust manifold is off, it pukes out water.....
WHAT THE HECK  Shocked
I quickly check the dip stick, oh no....
Ya know what, it ain’t a fun job pulling that damaged oil out, and a new filter, until I get a clean result...
Dang, I am a idiot  Embarrassed

See if there is a remote oil filter kit for your engine. With that and some sort of oil suction device you may be able to save yourself so serious effort at oil changes.

Yeah I would love that however no go as to retro fitting.
It requires some plumbing from the drain plug out through the transom drain, as well as a filter bypass.
It’s a option at build, but not after the fact, darn.

It’s running great now, will just do a couple more flushes and I should be good.
