REGULATOR-RECTIFIER/saddle bags (Read 88 times)

My question is: Will it affect the REGULATOR-RECTIFIER in any way or will it damage the leather portion of the bags that sits on top of it because of the temperature of the regulator? Any help and or suggestions would be appreciated.

It does get hot,... under there it'll get some air draw from the intake.

I did something weirder and cut a section out of the strap, and then drilled holes in the fender and bolted the leather to the fender on both sides.

Another thing you can do is to move the rectifier to a different location ,I choose to place it where the tool kit normally fits . I drilled several holes in the sides, top and bottom of the chrome cover(cooling) and mounted the rectifier to the metal plate behind it(wires did not need to be lengthened ). This will force you to find a new home for your tools,perhaps the bottom of your new saddlebags?

I left my rectifier in the same place, but removed it, laid the saddlebag strap over the fender, then bolted the rectifer down over the leather. Just made sure not to pinch any wires under the leather and if needed, trim the leather. My leather is not critical as I have homemade hard mount brackets, but I like the thought of the extra security.

NOTE: The only reason I was able to put the rectifier on top of the leather and it fit is because I raised my entire seat, front and rear, about 1". I used the rubber stopper method for the front, and similar method for the rear seat pads.
