SOLVED Had to pull some lights- bike won't turn o.
08/05/18 at 13:50:24

I have a 2006 Suzuki Boulevard S40

I had to dig into some electrical once I figured out the rear end wouldn't light up, turns out it was some nicked or broken wires.

I have the rear left and right turn signals disconnected as well as the license plate light. With these three light harnesses disconnected, the bike no longer has power anywhere... Why is this?

I don't believe so, as I haven't been able to get the bike to light up or start since pulled the rear lights.

The bike ran fine with the exception of the rear turn signals before I pulled them out at the connectors under the seat. I inadvertently pulled the plate light wires out at the same time, but did not disrupt any other electrical bits.

The wires don't connect to any thing critical. But if they were hot when you popped them may have shorted blowing a fuse.

When you say “ pulled the wires”  did you remove the pillion handles and remove the wires or did you literally pull the wires out ?

For the turn signals I disconnected them, for the plate light the wires were ripped off due to a pesky zip tie didn't notice.

My best suggestion is to start with checking/testing the fuses. After that use a meter to start tracing power. Start at the battery and find where the power fails.

That's what I would do.

If all of your work was exclusively at the tail section repairing the wiring for the turn signals, then the only item in the electrical system that would disrupt the operation of the bike that is near that group of wires is the voltage regulator/rectifier.

I'd start running down those wires. If the VR/R isn't attached to the harness, the bike will not run. In fact, I'd perform a continuity check of the diodes on the VR/R.

Let's keep this simple ,when he ripped off the wires for the L-plate the positive wire probably touched the fender and blew a fuse. he needs to repair these wires and any other worn or damaged wires ,replace the fuse and see if the lights return to normal and the bike starts.
be aware that leaving the key on to test the lights(for an extended time) without starting the bike can damage  (ruin) the ignition module . Unplugging it will protect it from damage.
