Not in NYC, where the law only requires that one party to the conversation give consent even if that one party is the person who did the recording, so no he's not in trouble for taping the conversation.

Well Trump is not your average client, if a lawyer is performing illegal actions but having his arm twisted... I could think of many reasons why he'd want to cover his ass.
