springman,

Why do you run the Shinko 230 front instead of a 712?

The time before last when I had to change both the front and rear tires I called Shinko for their suggestion and they recommended the 230 over the 712 so I went with their recommendation. The 230 rear only lasted around 7K miles but other than that was a good tire. The 230 front has been a good tire thus far and I had read that the 712 front follows the grooves on the road. I am back to the 712 on the rear (it lasts longer and is just as good or better than the 230). I do not know what I will put on the front next, possibly another 230.

Do you have a 712 on the front and if so how has it been?

Just my 2˘...

I went with Shinko 777's on my daily rider ('06 Honda Shadow Aero).  I've only got about 1500 miles on them, but I'm very happy so far.

Did the Lake Michigan circle tour on whole bunch of different road surfaces and weather and they rode great.  Even went on the "metal lane" of the Mackinac Bridge with confidence.

I have 712's on the front on 3 bikes. 2 Guzzis and the s40.
I ride one of the Guzzi's pretty fast on the few corners I can find in Florida and it feels pretty secure.
I can't really comment on grooves because they are not prevalent here.
Over metal bridges they are squirrely but most tires are.

I thought that a 230 was maybe less sticky as it is marketed as a touring tire but I have never tried them.
