Perhaps because he understands that some of our European "allies" France and Germany in particular, and the rest of the EU in general ,are not so much "allies" as they are our wards; they have been since shortly after WWII, and it's time for that arrangement to end.

The assertion that Trump is somehow "owned" by Russia is ridiculous. Russia isn't a wealthy enough country to "own" anybody right now. Trump and Putin understand one another because they are both nationalists, and neither of them believe the least little bit in the "one world" "open borders", "we are all in this together" claptrap.
