Tool questions

I’m traveling right now and don’t have access to my manual.  Can anyone verify that I have these sizes right?

Holding hex on alternator rotor: 36mm
Nut on flywheel: 46mm

Anyone know how deep the socket must be for removing the flywheel nut?

FWIW, the large nut is pretty shallow. I flattened the face of the deep socket on a lathe to get a better purchase on the nut. The rounded edges of the socket lose some of the gripping surface.

I don't recall the exact depth, but it has to be pretty deep. I am thinking that it was 2 1/2 inches though. No one local had one deep enough so I ended up cutting a shorter one in half and welding a short piece of pipe between the two halves to make it deeper.

Thanks  Batz for the confirmation.  Thanks Armen for the tip on engagement.  I’ve used your technique on sockets that I used on Harley front pulley nuts.  I know where your coming from.  If you don’t square off that edge it will take the corners right off the nut.  I found that it’s way easier to modify if you anneal it with a torch first.  Those sockets are tough cookies.  Thanks Fast for the tip on extension.  I am familiar with that too.  Used it on the same Harley pulley nut rig.  I cut through the socket with a six inch disc grinder.  It’s messy and time consuming but hey, what ya gonna do, huh.

Best regards to all, Mike

Cut off disks work.
Grinder disks are a huge hassle to cut with.

Are you doing a light flywheel?
Dave has a whole tool package (including) the socket.
