Bad coil...
06/06/18 at 08:28:07

My coil dies at 40k miles...
I replaced it with a $10 Ebay coil,... and it dies after a couple months.
I just replaced that one, and the bike fires up fine again.

Question... was it just a bit of bad luck,.. or is something wrong in the CDI that's cooking my coils?...
Any ideas?...

Your eBay coil was from a 35,000 mile bike.
Everything is okay.

And I'm just Guessing.
But seriously, what is the coil exposed to that Can hurt it?

It's always possible you bought a bad coil.
But I'd check the max voltage, and dear old sparky.
The key can be left on overnight and it usually cooks the CDI not the coil.
I assume the coil is in the stock location, so nothing abnormal there?
Sun shining down on it?  Moon dust?  Muppet hairs?

Wrap it up with some of that thermal protective blue fuzzy Muppet skin. I know you have a few yards stashed away for repairs.
