Belt Guard Removal (Read 72 times)

Quantm1366 YaBB Newbies Offline SuzukiSavage.com Rocks! Posts: 8	Belt Guard Removal 04/13/18 at 14:06:07 Has anyone removed the large belt guard and run the bike that way? Not the small front one that covers the pulley, the large chrome one that extends to the back wheel. I was thinking about removing it and running it that way, but if it is going to shred my pants or cause a problem with the belt I will just do the chain conversion. Has anyone done this?

I think the bottom edge of the belt would be the more likely culprit. It's there to prevent water splash... I don't like riding in rain anyway... and when I do, I get soaked all over,... ... so What's the diff?...

Posts: 30	Re: Belt Guard Removal Reply #5 - 04/13/18 at 19:13:51 I've run without my belt guard for the last 5 years, both with the belt and with a chain conversion. never had a problem with the guard not being there. However I also moved my footrests and controls forward several inches... maybe that plays a part in keeping my feet/cuffs/laces away from the belt.

I did loose my boot laces once - but I have rear set pegs and the lace went in the slots in the pulley cover...not in the back where the chrome guard is. If you ride dirt/gravel roads......you may be getting more stones stuck in your belt cogs.

I 've always run a belt ,and if properly adjusted, I see no reason you couldn't remove the guard , unless you are riding two up, I do, but I 've cut the guard about 2 inches past the shock thinking the curl looked ugly and served no real reason. If I ran a chain I'd leave the guard in place ,if the chain or master link ever failed the end of the chain could whip the back of your leg and with a lot of speed and hp behind , it could do some real damage .
