I would say the BIG difference was, you did not spend the time to post about it, when Bo did it.

 I don't think the entire world listens to Trump and makes battlefield decisions based off of him.

 The variables of wartime conventions are very high.  I don't think its as simple as Assad watching Trump say something then ordering a chemical attack.  It just doesn't work that way, there's a ton of people and moving parts involved.  Its really really dumbed down in movies and TV.

 It could have been anyone that released the chemical but I do not in any capacity think that one release of a weaponized material will change long-term US strategy in the area.  Trump isn't even an authority on what happens, he's part of it but can't launch missiles or keep the US in any fighting theatre on his own.  Assad knows that.

 The planning involved to create this false flag could be mitigated too easily given the volatility of the area.  It would be a huge investment of time, resources, cover-up and then the reaction might not even be what is intended.  Seems like way too much investment for a result that's not even close to being a sure-thing.  

I don't think our president knows how technology works...
