Broken front disc brake bolt in hub
03/22/18 at 05:54:59

I recently bought a 96 Savage, for a good price, nice shape, etc.
I have added the verslagen cam chain adjuster,  the cylinder head plug
he sells and added the raptor petcock. Still have to raise the seat. 10k original miles.

I thought it wise to remove and inspect each front disc bolt clean and re torque.  However, even being very careful, I snapped one off in the wheel hub.  I tried a screw extractor - not working, so I drilled it out an re- tapped, but now the threads are a bit sloppy, I thought of a heli coil, but
decided, probably two much stress in this application.  So I bought a used
front wheel off ebay.    My question is , is it proper to run a tap through each hole on the new/used hub, and a die on each bolt just to clean them up on this 22 year old savage that has never been apart or am I just taking more off of the threads and creating more issues down the road.

Thanks !

I would first try lubing up a bolt and running it in/out to polish up the threads.  Hopefully that will be enough to remove any corrosion in the threads.

Then clean off the lube from the threads, and use Blue threadlocker when torquing the bolts when you install the disc.

I snapped it off attempting to remove it.  the new ebay rim seem pretty
good.  I think running the bolts in and out of the new/used hub sounds
like a pretty good idea

thanks so much for your thoughts.
