2016 Yamaha SR400 $3999
03/20/18 at 06:54:46

Yep, that's right! Brand new, 2016, $3999! If you ever thought you wanted one, now's your chance. This dealer was formerly Hinshaw's in Auburn. I bought my S40 there in 2012, good folks, easy to deal with. They also have 3 other SR400s, but those are $4999 each. Scrambler? Bobber? Café? Or just a nice reliable bike (kicker only).

That's quite a deal... but except for the fuel injection and the mid-mount controls, I prefer the S40 with belt drive, more power, and electric starter.

PS: for shorties like me, the seat on the SR400 is too high to flat foot the bike.

I have much love for the SR500. The SR400...well...$4k is a good price...but not enough to create love.

From all reports the SR400 is kind of a wimp. they should have made it a 500 or even larger . Even at $100 a cc  it doesn't make it a better bargain than a new S-40.

It's a great looking bike but no electric start doesn't do it for me, at my age electric start is mandatory.  I think it would sell better if it had an electric starter and maybe a tad more power.  But thanks for posting the link because we are always looking for bargains.

I like the Sr400, like one says lack of power

The comparison is interesting look at the weights!

I hope to make my ryca cafe into a standard. It would be the Sr400 + some.

Not sure I get your point there... The Yamaha SR400 is 384 lbs according to the Yamaha website, and the S40 is 381 lbs.

Don't know about the shocks, but I put a tachometer on my s40 for $70.

The SR 400 is a nice bike but with no electric starter, stalling in traffic is not my idea of a fun afternoon! Plus, with no balancer it probably will loosen your fillings- I like it a lot but can't forgive those two items. :'(

S-40 652cc 8.5 compression 4 valve head ,   SR400 399cc 8.5 compression 2valve head . If people move up from a savage ,there's going to be some SR400's with low mileage going cheap in a couple of years.

What I am trying to get at is the Savage with electric start and a bigger engine weighs less. I am not sure if it is dry or wet weight for both) Take off some of the weight for a ryca conversion, The sr400 don't not  look so good.

This is why I am here and a owner of a Savage ryca.
I was out late one night on a ride coming back to New Jersey from bear mountain in Ny.
I was on my favorite motorcycle a 1966 Puch 250 sgs.
I some how ended up on the Palisade parkway. At 9 pm people were going 80 in the slow lane. Insane! Puchie (what I call my bike) tops out at 70. I could have been killed.
So I thought My 71 bsa  650 is far from complete. I need a bike  that is light weight, not a cruiser, not a enduro, not some funky tennis shoe styled sport bike.  I wanted (and still do) A sr400 or a w650, both however were out of my price range. the riding I do is mostly putting around and I like torque! So I bought a ryca cafe which I am in the process of putting it into the same configuration of control lay out and seating as my Puch 250. So if I am blindfolded I would not know which bike I was getting on. (riding bikes blindfolded is not recommended) Cool
