Yikes!... Huh

Rider quote...
Quote:
I'm very lucky to be alive. I slid through a tiny gap between the trucks rear tires and the trailer stand. If was going any slower or faster, I wouldn't of been so fortunate. The only injuries I got was a very small amout of road rash on my knee and hip.. Nothing broken. I'm very blessed. How did I get the wobbles? NO I DIDN'T WHEELIE. I was merging onto the freeway, checking traffic while I ventured over to the carpool lane. When I got next to the carpool lane, I check if it was clear again, then merged in while quickly accelerating in first gear. When I got up to enough speed to pass traffic (Traffic was doing 75-80 MPH) I changed into second gear (where the clip starts). First mistake I made was having my weight WAY too far back on the bike while accelerating, that mixed with the extremely bumpy freeway and the acceleration of the bike caused the front wheel to go extremely light. Thus causing the violent speed wobbles.

As an FYI the front end of my S40 became much more stable after I installed the TKat fork brace.....

Saw that earlier today. He says he didn't wheelie, but he probably dropped the front end down hard from a highspeed wheelie.  But thank god he was okay.  Incredibly unlucky and lucky at the same time.

The rider was traveling 90 mph and doing wheelies seconds prior to the video clip. He is a known stunt rider and is know to take chances on public roads - putting not only his life in dander, but everyone around him.

That guy is lucky, maybe he'll quit doing high speed wheelies now. High speed wobbles are something I think about every time I do something to change the geometry of a bike.  My S40 has Intruder shocks and a taller than stock tire in the back which has changed the rake angle and quickened the steering which I like.  So far it has shown no inclination to wobble, maybe it doesn't go fast enough.  Since 1960 I've ridden a lot of different bikes and I've never experienced a high speed wobble (knock on wood).  My Guzzi did a low speed wobble once when I was slowing for an intersection but it only did it that one time, don't know why.

Ain't no chance of an S40 getting into a tank slapper like that. It's rake, trail and log wheel base make it inherently stable...even with the tallest tire you can get back there.

Maybe he's been taking meds that can cause constipation or diarrhea?

First instinct
Fight the front end.
Not the best answer.
IIRC, Twist of the Wrist says
Soften the arms and unload the front tire some.
Tightening up transmits wobble through the whole bike.

The savage, even with a brace, will give an unnerving head shake in a long sweeper.
I think it's from the suspension changing the geometry because of the slight changes in the road. The rear end goes up and down, and the front needs to change a little, and it will, and you better let it.

This guy, no telling what bit him. He's not passing them so fast but can't see the speed. That wall, and the truck, Turbulence?

The minute prior to the start of the wobble would possibly help.

Relax your arms, apply the REAR brake, hope for the best.

I guess the clue is, he starts the video at his second gear shift...
It was obviously shooting video before that, but he don't want to show that bit.

That was the stupid behaviour bit...
Speedo is blurred out too...
