Mega Moles!
02/07/18 at 10:00:17
Over the weekend the sun came out and warmed up the ground a bit....and a mole decided that the groundhog didn't know what he was talking about and spring had arrived........and the mole began to tunnel around in my yard and tear the place up.
However - I set a trap and got him!
We really do grow big moles in KY!

Yep, you should definitely have that mole removed.

What a trophy! You should get it stuffed and display it in your man cave.

Dave, when I first saw that mole picture I thought it was met to be a joke, an image modified by photoshop somehow. Then I googled North American moles and discovered they can grow to 7 inches long! The biggest I've ever seen was maybe 3 inches. Guess I've only seen the toddlers.
Years ago I read that in the early days people made change purses out of the skins and I always wondered how they did that out of something so small, now I know.

Their fur is really incredible. It is velvety soft.....and for some reason the dirt/mud doesn't stick to them. It would make really nice gloves or collars.
I really don't like killing animals for just being animals, and if when they stay in the fields and woods I leave them alone - but when they come into the yard I have to take action, as they really make a mess. On the burrows they push the grass up and it loses contact with the soil and the grass dies, and then they also make basket ball size piles of dirt where they push the dirt up out of the burrows.

They destroyed my yard a few years ago. I probably killed a dozen of them over a two year period. Now I'm left with a large depression in my front yard, a depressed section of pavers in my patio and a crapload of collapsed tunnels leading down to my pond where the would feast on worms in the moist shoreline.
As a bonus, I had a couple of Muskrats making dens in my yard as well.

I think they did make gloves out of them years ago, maybe Google Moleskin gloves.

Dave, GOD has
Blessed
you mightily.
He has
blessed
the work of your hands,
your crops, and your herds of MEGA sized moles.
There has been no one in all the Bible that I have seen
who has been
blessed
with such a herd as you have, my brother.
GOD must love you greatly to have
blessed
you so.

I am blessed in many ways.
When the weather is warmer and the catfish in the pond are active.....a mole thrown into the pond only has to swim for 10 seconds or less - then there is a big splash and it is gone!
