Ya'll may not believe this  ... :  when I first got my current S-40 it had less than 5,000 miles .   One of the first things I did was to modify the cam tensioner w/extention hole and softer spring (1/3 as strong).    Now the bike has right at 40,000 miles and here is a picture of what the tensioner looks like now.  I put a new clutch disk in last week and it might be one more click than the picture.    Two clicks out and quiet and happy !     Smiley

I'm taking a Clue from YouzGuyz here ... he has 150,000 miles on a stock engine.   Don't know how many cam-chains ???  Huh    At the current rate of wear , I might have to put the Nitrate Chain on after  about 100,000 miles of the Stock Chain ...

................................................................................
........

With some time spent choosing the route and the night stops, a long trip by bike becomes a journey worth doing, rather than an ordeal to be suffered through.

The Journey being part of the Destination  Cool  .  I'm game !   How many States can I check-off my Map before we get back home ?  Tongue

MM....well I hope your light spring idea works - as I installed a really light spring in the rescue bike I sold to a woman last year.

Versey , you bring the truck ?

I was chatting with a feller at Chic-Fila today who went to Sturgis last year .    He said he had been twice .   One time Rode and one time trailered.   Either way , he Said its about 24 hours of driving from middle Tn.
We'll see how we do on this next adventure with 500 mile days .

Versey , you seem to be doing good with the planning and I'm glad you are !   I'm planning on going in the August time frame , so count me in on whatever you come up with .

If we're going to be in the neighborhood of Mt.Rushmore I want to sneak around the back side of it to see if its true .  Roll Eyes

1100 miles 17 hours straight and losing an hour due to time zone.

August is a good time for me.

That iron mtn ride is supposed to have a view of mt rushmore... front side.  I think if you go on the back side, you'll only see 1 moon.

August is still looking good for me and I think also for Steve. I'm with MM Versey, you plan it, we'll be there. Cool

                                                Versey's Big Mountain Adventure  of 2018  !!!

..........................................................................

I know less than nothing  about the  entire area , except some really cool pictures I've seen and the fact that for some reasone the Stergist Rally keeps sending folks back home with nice big smiles for a good reason.

Meeting at MM's is too far out of the way for me. Steve may want to meet at MM's since he is in Atalanta, but I do not know what his plans are. For me SD is almost straight north through Oklahoma, Kansas and Nebraska. I believe heading to Lancer's would take me a bit more easterly but I would be happy to meet there.

I watched National Geographic Channel last night and they had a program on the Smoky Mountain National Park.  The part that got my attention was when they discussed the seasons......and they stated that the mountains becomes as wet as a "rain forest", and the area can get more than 80" of rain a year!  That seems to closely parallel the weather patterns that we try to ride through each summer - with rain showers every afternoon!

If the riding weren't so darn nice - maybe we should try to find a dryer climate to go ride in.

I think Cody is the best town to make base camp in.
It's in range of the beartooth hwy and several other rides too.

I looked at m/c roads and if we stay at red lodge, beartooth hwy is it.
But if we stay in Cody there's 4 different loops to go on.
1. cody via chief joesph to beartooth to redlodge about 115 miles.
2. cody to yellerstone 100 miles
or 2 more roads towards little big horn for 150 miles each.
so 2 to 300 day rides.

and a cabin for 4 at $66
http://www.codyponderosa.com/rates/rates.html

restaurants, museums and I'm sure there's a hospital for jog.   Grin
