Parts compatibility between years
11/22/17 at 12:41:35

Hi y'all, I apologize in advance if my questions are simplistic, but  am brand new to Savages. Well, not brand new, but my only previous Savage was a '72 TS250, so new to this vintage.

I recently acquired an '03 LS650. The bike was wrecked when new, then stored in a shed - still wrecked - for 13 or 14 years. The frame and forks are toast, but the rest of the bike, including the body pieces, are really, really nice. The motor has only 1500 miles on it. The ancient tires still have the nubbies on them.

This bike cannot be rebuilt, but I know there is a frame out there looking for a motor. My question is this: what years bikes will do an exact exchange with an '03? I need one that will take a straight engine switch, for sure, but I would really like to use the rest of the bike, if possible. I could hold out for an '03, but I like to keep my options open.

And, if anyone with driving range of Austin, TX, has a titled frame on a derelict bike they would like to get rid of, IM me.

Thanks,

Patrick

Your parts will fit in any frame from 86 on.

Some parts don't interchange with various years, but most do.

To be honest, just 24 years , if your in the usa.The ls650 wasn't sold in the USA between 1988 and 1994. If the ignition control box on your bike wasn't damaged your in good shape, and can use any frame ,if damaged, you'll want to have a bike with a five speed trans (1995-first year for the 5 speed ) as the 86-87 had four speeds and different timing(different rotor), (the cdi may also be different -some 5 wire ,some 6 wire- cost is almost $500)

Apparently parts from a 1954 model are becoming less and less compatible with working and having fun.

Ya, I know . I tried finding parts for my 54' and hope I don't need anything as they are really scarce especially the CDI box .
