HEL brake line on an S40
11/05/17 at 09:35:06

Hey folks,

Planning a brake line upgrade to braided steel (almost certainly from HEL) - but they only list a kit for the Savage (up to '98), not the S40 (which I have, from 2012). Is there any meaningful difference between the two models which means the Savage kit wouldn't work on an S40?

Is there anything else to bear in mind (fittings not 'fitting', etc)?

The handlebars are different, so the brake line would be a different length. Someone here must have changed bars and can tell you if the early brake line for the ''buckhorn'' bars will work with the current ''drag'' bars. I would think the early one would be slightly longer.

Calipers and master cylinders are the same, so length is the only issue.
Contact HEL and see if they have the shorter one. Might be smart to find out how long each brake line is from Suzuki first.

the difference is only an inch or two in length.
easily taken up in routing.

early drag bars had a different master, but I believe all later models have the same master.

GO to revival cycles.com they have a great brake line kit but you must buy the two banjo fittings separately

You might have a local HEL dealer nearby, they'll prepare whatever you need on the spot, or maybe come back next day.

I changed handlebars from buckhorn to S40 flat bars on my 2003.  Verslagen1 is correct, the extra length was easily taken up by cable routing. Wink

I bought my braided front brake line from Venhill USA.  It is incredibly well built - you choose the length, color and end fittings.

That Venhill option looks very convenient. I like the idea of pre-built things.

I assume I'd need single-length bolts, but should they be 10mm x 1.00 or 10mm by 1.25 to fit correctly? (If it even matters? My knowledge of brake lines is limited to fluid physics, not parts engineering!)

brake banjo bolts are M10x1.25
the lengths are standard, just order a "single"
new copper washers would be good, 2 per banjo.

I should have provided the link to the "custom" page...where you pick your color, length and fittings.  I bought the black, and the coating on the brake line looks nice and durable, and it doesn't scratch things that it bumps up against.
