Is this the same chain that is fitted to current models? The joiner setup is really just two pins that go through the sheaves of the link and are then peened over.

I would imagine the ends of the pins are spun over....same as we did when taking bulk saw chain and making it into specific size chains.

I suppose you could peen it over (I have done when I got a good deal on some new chain and needed to shorten it) - but it might be a bit hard to get the job done with the engine still in the frame.

The best chain deal is to buy a new Nitrided one from Lancer. I believe they are Borg Warner chains.

If you have not done so already I would suggest that you also replace the stock tensioner with the one modified by Verslagen. It can save your engine from self destruction.

All the engine parts from the new bike fit the older bikes - so when you can't find a part listed in the old parts lists........look at a list for a newer model. The only things that don't interchange are the 4 speed transmission parts to the 5 speed model, the starter torque limiter with the early left side engine cover, and early charging/rotor/stator/wiring systems.

You may need to find an online parts supplier that will ship to you - or get the parts when you visit the US and put them in your suitcase.......or get a nice forum member to buy them and ship them to you.

I already have a modified tensioner on my bike - I did the machine work myself on a brand new one. It has been in now for over 4,500 miles. Seems to work OK. I will take off side cover next Spring/Summer to check on it.
