Live
In 23 hours.
Dead
In 23 hours and three minutes.
That's an ambitious goal.
Almost mach 1.5...
On land.
Has anyone busted the sound barrier on land?
Seems like that shockwave would Jack the thing off the ground.

October 15, 1997, Andy Green piloted the ThrustSSC to 763 mph, setting a new land speed record and also becoming the only person to break the sound barrier on land.

1,000 mph is a significant improvement.

As the above post states, the sound barrier was broken on land.  I remember reading the theories on how the shockwave would work and the potential dangers.  Not one aerospace program that I can recall thought there was any real danger, the concussion would be behind whatever was travelling because it was going faster than the reactive force.

1,000 is pretty cool, I hope it works and isn't just a BS publicity stunt.

Due to start at 8am EDT, 5am PDT... ish.

I'm pretty sure I heard about that speed run, but forgot. That's still just amazing, wow. A wingless fighter jet,, pretty much sums it up. I hope all goes well.
Anyone else remember the Green Monster?

Wow ten ton , the driver must be fearless or stupid ! Does it have an ejection seat or a air bag system ? Something goes wrong at those speeds it will take weeks to gather up the wreckage. I hope he does it safely !
Very interesting jet engine ,ice running a pump to feed oxidizer into solid rocket fuel for the final thrust , simply crazy !

Hang the phuck on !!!

I think I would design the front end to split the air in front rather allow to go up and into the engine.
That way you would keep all the crap on the ground from being sucked into the engine.
A big issue at airports as they have to walk the runway and pick up all the chit.

One of the best ever. My brothers and I grew up listening to Buddy's album called "How you do". So politically incorrect. So great.
