Yeah, it is cumbersome, but of you manage a website or a message board you can appreciate it. It greatly minimizes SPAM and other bots (not Serowbots) from sending massive amounts of SPAM messages to all of us.

Hi guys.

I just recieved a new cam chain. I thought it was endless, but it appears to have a rivet link.
A final chain is easy, it has a stop on the pins so you cant overdo it. This one doesn't.
Any suggestions on how to assemble it so it wont bind?

The engine head is apart.

Thanks,

I know nothing about how to spin a cam chain rivet properly....without a tool.

I suggest you send it back to where you got it.....and buy a nitrided chain from Lancer.

The chain is from DID. Sending it back will cost $20-25.
Purchasing a chain in US will be too expensive. Lets say double up Shocked

I hope someone will chime in with a good idea Smiley

Is it possible they sent you the wrong chain?
Our chain is a "silent chain" not a roller link chain.

They make tools similar to what you would use to install a press fit master link on a bicycle.  The tool has a block in the middle to keep the plates from binding when you press the pin in.

The chain is ok. Like this

And a link like this

Will it be ok to assemble the chain and tap the pins gently with a hammer?
I can also insert a thin, removable shim between two of the plates. Like a valve gauge blade.

Probably not a hammer. You want to get some sort of a chain press or chain crimper.  Or maybe use a vise in some fashion to press the link in before you install the chain.

The cost of a chain failure would make the cost of getting the right chain would be something to consider.
