My wife Paula was a hard core concert chickie during her life and went to probably close to a 100 concerts.  Tom Petty was her all time favorite entertainer and she attended 7 of his concerts.
She is sad.

I just read that CBS may have jumped the gun and pronounced TP dead. Is this going to be one of those deaths? Tom Petty's Facebook page says that his family and bandmates were with him at his passing, and that sounds fairly convincing.

I can vividly remember the first time I heard "darn the Torpedoes" (in my older brothers car) and thinking to myself, this is one of the greatest albums I've ever heard. I had a 8-track player in my car and that album played a constant loop for about 4 months.

Tom Petty was an interesting man.  I met him three separate times assisting a friend of mine with principle protection over the years.

We once spent an evening (his friends and mine) in Maui talking about "anything but music" and while he had a reputation for frying his brains with various abuse over the years I can say he was an intelligent and thoughtful man.

On another note I once took a road trip in my 1960 Cadillac that had a CD Walkman cheaply wired into the stock speakers.  My friend forgot to bring the CD collection and all we had was a Tom Petty Anthology.

The perfect CD's for a road trip, but after 16 hours of nothing but Tom Petty or the wind to listen to I was so burned out I can say after that trip it took me years to want to hear another Tom Petty song.

I liked him in the Post Man.
He had a few songs I liked. My younger sister is probably in shock. She loved the guy.
