I can't get her over 40 mph

Hey guys,

I'm back!

non modified 96 savage.

Has not been rode in about 8-9 months.  Just figured out the clutch switch issue but now when I ride the RPM's are low.  I can't get it to go faster than 40 mph and it gets there very slowly.
Initially with PC on "On" it cut off after downshifting 2nd to 3rd when i let the rpms down.
Switch to prime and it ran better on shift but still lacked alot of the RPM's I would want to get to 40 mph quick and eventually back up to 80.

SO, I took the carb off and it looks great! Diapham in good shape.  Bowl had plenty of gas in it.  Jets are clean.

What am I missing?  I can post pictures of the carb or anything else if you would like.

Thanks!

How old is the gas?
Have you looked at the air filter?
Dirt dobber in the exhaust?

Brand New Gas.  When i took the carb off, I emptied the tank and disposed of it.  I put 1/2 gallon of brand new gas in.

I'll check the air filter but i feel confident it isn't that.  It's a K&N and I have a cleaner for it so I'll clean that out.

wasp in the exhaust? Tha'ts a thing?  I don't think there is one or if there was I'm sure i blew it out while riding it.  I drove it about 2 miles through my neighborhood trying to find a consistency in the problem.

The clutch feels tights and it shifts smoothly.

It just doesn't have the RPM's it use to when I engage and go.  I would say I have 60 percent or less power from lack of RPM's.

I just took it back out and got it up to 50 MPH but it took about a 1/2 mile to get there.

Angry I can only think that it's a Jet in the Carb but I don't know which one controls the RPM's on high rev.

Anyone know?

Dang!

I didn't think about that with only a 1/2 gallon.  I'm replacing the petcock anyways.  I opened it up to see what's what inside and found some rust that got in from a washer or something.  The brass spring on the inside was stuck and went i got it to move it was totally bent out  Shocked .  Guess i'm buying a new petcock tomorrow.
I'll let you guys know if this solves it when I get it all back together.

Thanks again!

Get a genuine Yamaha one. Don't be seduced by cheap options. You'll pay about 30 bucks. Best bang for buck you'll ever spend.
