SIEZED up key locks
09/13/17 at 18:31:18
This pair of "garage find Savages I picked up a week or so ago, have been sitting since 1999. The onE has a siezed ignition keyswitch, gas cap and battery/tool compartment lock. The other I was able to get the ignition key lock to turn to all positions. But all other locks are STUCK!!!
I've liberally sprayed each lock mechanism with PB Blaster every day since in my possession. And tried to turn GENTLY! Nuthin yet.any tips or tricks Ya'll may have would be great.

Careful what you spray in steering lock ! It will go right thru and destroy grease in lower steering head bearing !!!

Graphite for locks
I'd be wondering if you are using the right key.

Time will be your friend.....and some heat as well (careful on the gas cap with the heat). Maybe parking the bike in the sun will help with the gas cap.
For the ignition switch - take it off, lube it well, and set it on the dashboard of your car on a sunny day (solar oven). For the others try a hair dryer or a heat gun (carefully).

I could understand the tank lock getting gummy but the others are not likely.
I think you got a case of vandalism.
Once you got them loose, take them apart and completely clean them.
Look in the index for "lock"

Thank for all the ideas. I couldn't navagate to the index section successfully, so I put a 6" cresent on the key and gently worked it back and forth. After a bit ALL the locks became operative!! The insides of the tanks didn't look as bad as some I have seen, but I'm still going to shake some acetone and drywall screws around in there and loosen up what I can't see. Then give a good coating of Caswell tank liner epoxy.
