Tail light assembly part
08/30/17 at 08:16:26

I have a damaged one of these light I want to hook up.

https://www.classicbritishspares.com/products/mt110-rear-lucas-copy-tail-ligh...

Inside is a spring, and a plastic connector with two copper/brass pins that the light connects to.

I was wondering if the internal assembly, the spring/plastic and copper piece is sold anywhere.  It looks pretty universal but I have no idea what those parts would be called.

Look at the stock tail light and see if you can use the parts out of that.
Or buy a cheap light and steal the parts out of that.
Other than that, go to an auto supply, they might have an assembly you can use.

Thanks that's exactly what I was looking for.

Didn't know what that assembly was called.

I see there are plenty of LED bulbs but I don't know if they are a straight conversion.  12V bulbs would need a resistor as well correct?

12 v incandescent bulbs are what it was designed to use. No added stuff needed.

Right incandescent is what goes in there but there's also bayonet LED replacements.  They say "plug and play" but I don't think that's correct.

Doesn't the LED bulb need a resistor?

Only to use a stock flasher.
You can replace the stock flasher with an electronic one.

Flasher is the only place a resister would be required to get the flash rate correct.
Unless of course you were making your own led light out of components.
But I don't think you're doing that.

Versy, please explain. Do the aftermarket LED bulbs already have a resistor built in? If not, won't they burn up pretty quickly without a resistor?

Why would you need to mess with a 12 volt light? Plug and play..

if you're using a 1156 or 1157, it's made for 12v. plug and play.

if you got a hand full of leds with bare leads, they are made for 1.5v and you'll need to chain a number of them together and maybe a resister or you'll get a very bright light for a few seconds.
