Can anyone tell me what the black wire connects to that exits the rear of right hand engine casing - it seems to connect to earth but the engine earth is a the larger black wire that connects to one of the nearby engine bolts.

I can see why it seemed to be connected to ground as my meter was reading the low resistance through the neutral indicator
