heat shields
08/11/17 at 13:11:23

so ive been running my new exhaust for a while but the stock heat shield did not fit so ive kinda left it as is till i found one i liked.  all i seem to find is the cheap china knockoff ones, so im looking for suggestions.
im looking for something that looks ok but not of such poor quality its going to be rusted junk in 6months.  i found one that was billet aluminum that read "f**king hot" which i found mildly amusing but not in a size we could use. any suggestions anyone?

What exhaust are you running?

I got the heat shield that came with with my DYNA and it works ok.  Some will tell you that this is thin and not a true heat shield, but I have been very pleased with it and it blends in with the lines on the bike well. I added some spacers under it to step it off of the muffler and allow better airflow as it sits tightly on the muffler using the stock set-up.

If you are referring to the heat shield that is higher up by your right foot covering the header, I am still running the stock one.

I picked up this one for $14; I see it's back up to 19:  https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000WJ6W06/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie...

I have the stock header shield and the one that came with the Dyna muffler.  The Cobra shield is installed at the union of the header and muffler.  Pretty solid piece.

im running a delkevic slash cut muffler, its the longer of the two that are available.  i love the sound just getting tired of burning holes in my work pants when at a light. my rain suit works very well aside from lower right leg lol.
how has the chrome held up on the cobra shields?

Still looks brand new.
YMMV, my bike is always parked in a garage when not on the road.  Lucky enough to have garage parking at work.

I made mine out of thin (approx. .050") stainless steel, and polished the heck out of it.  It is strong, won't rust, and will polish out reasonably well.  If you can get the dim's, you could get a local metal fabrication shop to cut and form.
