Just bought a 2012 S40 with 4600 miles. First order of business was changing the oil (there was NO oil on the sight glass when bike was level)
Previous owner said that he "just changed the oil" and I should be good for a long time. Not so. Oil was low, and nasty black. Idiot.
The crush washer was smashed down to nothing. Not something I like to see, as I religiously change the crush washer at every oil change on everything I own that uses one.
The drain plug has a magnet in it. Is this stock?
I had a hard time getting the old crush washer off. Did not have an OEM replacement obviously.
I did have Toyota crush washers (from my moms 2008 Camry 2.4L) and they fit perfect! Toyota 90430-12031 gasket fits perfect, like they were designed for it. They are a nice design too, with aluminum sandwiched between a layer of rubber or felt on each side. I've put 200 miles on the bike since and it doesn't leak, so looks like a good option for the Savage/S40.
Do you think there will be any problems using the non-oem crush washer? As long as it doesn't leak and seals fine, I dont think it will be a problem.
10 pack of these crush washers was only a few bucks on eBay.
Oil used was 0W30 Castrol synthetic ....
Just kidding. I used Rotella 15W40, thanks to the forum recommendation.
