As soon as you get tired of trying to figure that out I'm gonna toss another bolt in your driveway.

I laughed out loud at that one.

If I ever make it to that part of Texas JOG is going to have hell to pay.  I'm going to throw a whole bucket of nuts and bolts in his driveway, maybe fill his muffler up with a whole bottle of baby powder, wire up his horn to the brake lever switch so every time he pulls the brake the horn honks, and who knows what else.

Ok...I inspected both bikes and can find no apparent evidence of where this mystery bolt goes. I took the radiator bolt out of the Ninja where I had to replace a bolt last year and although it is slightly different, it is also a M6 flange head except it is fully threaded. My thinking (and hope) is that I had a couple of bolts there while replacing the missing one and threw the extra in the Ninja tool bag, which is not unlike me. I guess it jiggled out of the tool bag and trunk of the Ninja and found a home in my driveway. I keep everything, so it must have been once used or 'tested' on something to get the turn marks on it.

It's still gonna bug me though.... Undecided

Is that the bolt that tightens the muffler clamp, header pipe, exhaust?

Best regards,

pg,
I'll check that. IIRC mine is rusted and tarnished (cause I remember trying to clean it once) but you never know. This is just crazy.

Does your bike have the "hidden" bolts on the fender rails that poke through from the inside? I've had one of those shake loose before and it's roughly that size (not sure exactly though).

AlexW, on the rear fender, nope. I have replaced those with button head allens when I added the larger rear tire a couple fo years ago.

I think if you had Stewmeter Standard bolts, this wouldn't have happened.  Sure this isn't an British Standard Whitworth bolt?  Those old brit bikes are as hard to keep together as the old Harleys!

Dangit, that must be it. I completely forgot I had my own bolts struck and forged and this is likely one of the leftovers as I was replacing EVERY bolt on my S40 with the new Stewmeter Standards. For some reason, the bike sure does feel looser in the corners now  Shocked Shocked Shocked

That's scary...sunken flange heads and all just like mine. Considering I rode it about 8 miles down the road and back to fuel it up and dry it off and there isn't a big hole in my crankcase I thankfully don't think that's it.  But WOW what a perfect match.

Has to be something that fell out of the tool bag.  I just don't see how both bikes ran perfectly and nothing seemed out of sorts while riding.

New rule.  NO LOOSE BOLTS in the garage! If they are going in a tool bag, they will get double bagged in a ziploc so if they jump out of the tool bag they won't be laying there waiting to worry me silly.

Dave/stew, the clutch bolts have bars, not dots.
I don't recall any suzuki bolts with dots.
But I'm limited to '02

Just close your eyes, and toss the darn bolt over your shoulder and get on with your life!I'm glad you didn't find a nail you would be inspecting your whole house to see if one was missing!
