Beer budget board tracker
07/23/17 at 07:25:15

I just got a 98 Savage as the start of new build.  I'm going in the direction of a board tracker but not a super strict interpretation.  Maybe more a modern board tracker.  But nothing is built yet so we'll see where it goes.  For I now I'm calling it the beer budget board tracker.

I'm starting with the forks.  My tentative plan is to build them and road test them on the stock frame to make sure I'm comfortable in designing around them as I tear into the frame.

Here's the concept of the fork design.  Not every part is represented yet.  There will be oilite bushings at all pivots and either bolts or rod for axles and gussets or plates to attach the tubes to the bearings.

Seen all kinds of builds here on SS but never a board tracker Savage.
This should be a very unique build , lots of eyes watching your build , have at it !

I had to look up 'board tracker'!

Can't wait to see where you go with it ... especially a 'modern' version. Good luck with the build.

Motorcyclopedia, the bike museum near here has original 8 valve 1,000 cc Indian factory board track racers on display.
No brakes, no gearbox, WFO throttle with only a kill switch to slow down the motor, no mufflers, total loss oil systems.
Running on banked wooden bicycle tracks.

A few more progress pics.  Close up is a portion of the bottom triple clamp.  Lug to be welded and sliced to allow for a clamp fit to steering stem.

Yikes!  I didn't know it was that barebones, that's why I'm thinking a more modern version  Smiley

Barebones is okay, to a point, but when it starts looking like it's gonna cause broken bones, it's time to rethink..

How will you tie those parts to the triple clamps?
