Intermittent starting issue

Sometimes when I press the starter button nothing happens except for an audible click! - If I tap the toolkit cover and try again the bike will start! The control unit with the 2 timers has been re-located to behind the toolkit cover - it hangs down by the cable loom, pressing against the side of the battery.

I have cleaned the control unit terminals and connector but the fault still occurs. Any ideas folks?

California Gender:	Re: Intermittent starting issue Reply #1 - 07/15/17 at 12:27:22 depending on where and how hard, could be the decomp controller or could be the starter relay. the decomp controller looks like a sealed unit but moisture still can get in. orient it with the connector down. starter relay sometimes sticks usually in the closed position. but I wouldn't rule out a dirty start button.
