Paint Spray Gun Recommendation?
07/14/17 at 08:51:19

I want to buy a HVLP Gravity Feed Spray Gun. I owned a small pressure touch-up gun for years...but it was lent out never to return. So now I need a new paint gun. I have a decent paint technique, but I really don't know how to chose a decent paint gun. I started looking, saw that there are different nozzle sizes, fan patterns, cup material and sizes...and decided the best thing to do is to ask questions.

Anybody have a favorite...and can you tell me why?

I bought a Devilbiss SGK 600BV because I wanted a good gun I only had to buy once, it gets great reviews and uses a little bit less air than other hvlp. you'll still need a decent air supply though. the gun works beautifully. I painted my car with it. etch primer, hi build primer, ground and base coats and 2 pack clear, all from one gun. comes with a 1.5mm (i think) air cap but youcan buy a 2mm cap for sspraying high build. I just thinned it down a bit. the pot is plastic and holds more than enough to paint a whole motorbike in one go. very nice gun indeed and cost less than $200 new on fleabay.
painted my Savage with a $15 touchup gun from ebay though, and it turned out fine, too.

If you are only going to be painting motorcycle parts...the small touch up size guns work just fine for fuel tanks, fenders, bod panels, etc.
