Opening crank case, what else should I check?

I am going to replace the cam chain tensioner with a Verslavvy.
While I'm in there is there anything else I should be looking for?
I don't have shifting/slipping issues, so the clutch is fine?
I do have some noise coming from down there, not ticking or knocking, but I'm hoping it is just the CCT. It sounds like flapping. Maybe I should take a video.
Any preventative maintenance I should be doing?

Clutch issues are generally adjustment.
Not only cable, but rods as well.
check the clutch arm on the back side of the case, there are 2 marks.
grab that lever and pull up on it to take out the slack but not disengage the clutch.
The higher it is to the top mark, the less travel the rod has, which might not be enough to fully disengage the clutch.
With the cover off, the rod will stick out of the clutch pack by 12 to 12.5mm
Also, although I like a lot of freeplay on the clutch cable, too much and you won't be able to pull in the clutch. Try to have at least an 1/8" and check the full travel of the bars for any binding.

That's not a bad start
. Take your time, make notes and take pictures. Enjoy yourself.

I think you are 'removing clutch cover' not 'opening crank case'.
A difference of about ten times in the amount of work.

In theory, theory and reality are the same. In reality, they aren't...

Draw the outline of the side cover and slot it. Put each bolt in its respective place. Makes going together much easier.
Handy on the head cover too.

Yep, that's what I meant. Told you I was an idiot. Thanks for decoding.
