I'll check those things tonight when I get home and report back. Thanks!

Yes, I've done the spacer with a few washers. I rejetted and did the spacer mod a while ago. It ran great and I haven't changed anything since. All of a sudden it decides to not behave.

Versy, I originally thought it was a fuel problem but I don't see anything obvious that would be the culprit. Nothing looks out of place. The diaphragm was seated properly when I pulled the cap off but I'll double check everything and let you guys know.

Thanks again for the help!

Kris,

Check to make sure that your needle isn't binding inside the needle jet. I've seen it happen.

It won't take any throttle though. If I pull the "choke" out 1 notch it wants to stumble and die

Some of the other guys here are better at this than I, but this comment makes me think it is running rich for whatever reason.  I too have the marks on my slide, just not as bad. I clean my slide and carb body with WD40 and wipe with a lint free cloth right before installing and that has always served me well.

As another mentioned, what is your white spacer situation? I recently fought an issue at idle - 1/8 and what I though was a lean condition turned out to be a rich condition due to my having taken too much out of the white spacer.  These things can be tricky.

a) Tell us what your white spacer set up is? (EDIT: you noted above...you were typing while I was  Smiley)
b) What happens if you turn the air/mix screw all of the way in? Does it choke out or stumble noticeably?

I put my slide in once and somehow cocked the spring or pinched the diaphragm.   Went to go to work the next day and it would hardly accelerate.  Just like you described.  I popped the top off and reset the diaphragm and made sure the spring was straight as I put the top back one.  Runs perfect.

Check your diaphragm for tears or holes, make sure it's seated properly and carefully compress the spring when you put the top on.  With any luck, it will run like it should.

I had the exact same thing happen when I did the spacer mod.  I think the diaphragm slipped while putting it together.

FWIW, I had the exact same problem as Ohiomoto carefully removing the top sap  and replacing it cured my self imposed problem. Smiley

if it was rich, then would you not smell the gas in the exhaust?  Is the air filter clean?

If it is lean, you did change to Raptor, did you try it on REServe?  Blow out or replace the old line?  Old gas?

Nobody talks about Seafoam any more.  Was that just for Oldfeller or something?

She runs like a champ!

I think the diaphragm swelled a little bit after I sprayed carb cleaner into the carb. That's probably why the slide seemed to have a little friction when I pushed it up and down.

As it turns out, my floats were ever so slightly off. I don't remember the float height right now but mine were too high by about 1/16" or so. Maybe the fuel level was too high in the float bowl putting the gas too close to the fuel pickup causing the carb to gulp fuel instead of sipping it? I don't know.

I bent the tabs on the float and got it adjusted to slightly over 1" height, give or take. I think the specs are between 1" and 1.25" but don't quote me on that. Maybe someone will chime in.

Yep, that sounds familiar! Thanks Batman!

Can anyone figure out how the float got out of adjustment all by itself? When I bent the tab back into spec it wasn't easy. It was stiff enough that it should stay in spec virtually forever.

That's such a good question.
Of course I would think so, I asked it a few days ago. I don't remember a Really convincing reply.  Not sure anyone knows.

It probably got knocked out of alignment the last time you removed/installed the float bowl. It's easy to catch the side of the floats with the cover during removal/installation.

I wonder how much wear on the needles rubber tip, as well as shrinkage as the rubber ages, affects float level.  Undecided
