Some of the other guys here are better at this than I, but this comment makes me think it is running rich for whatever reason. I too have the marks on my slide, just not as bad. I clean my slide and carb body with WD40 and wipe with a lint free cloth right before installing and that has always served me well.
As another mentioned, what is your white spacer situation? I recently fought an issue at idle - 1/8 and what I though was a lean condition turned out to be a rich condition due to my having taken too much out of the white spacer. These things can be tricky.

b) What happens if you turn the air/mix screw all of the way in? Does it choke out or stumble noticeably?
